Scotland Memorial Hospital Electrical and Mechanical Upgrades

The project consisted of the replacement of existing emergency power distribution system and upgrading of the chilled water system. Electrical upgrades included construction of a new emergency power electrical room with 2 hour separation between the normal power electrical room, installation of 750 kW generators, new paralleling switchgear, eight new automatic transfer switches, and new distribution panels. Detailed phasing and cut-over plans and temporary emergency power to maintain back-up power at all times were provided during the renovations. HVAC upgrades included the replacement of an existing water cooled chiller with a larger chiller, replacement of pumps, upgrade of the existing cooling towers and condenser water pumps, and rework of piping to increase capacity. Two air handlers were also replaced. These renovations took place while the hospital remained operational.
